Gatwick Northern Runway Project Update
A summary update for the Northern Runway project, posted to residents in the noise contour and designed to be skimmable in five minutes.
In 2021, Gatwick Airport published its proposals for the Northern Runway project and ran a programme of community engagement and consultation on them. We were commissioned as part of the consultation team to provide graphic design, typesetting and video editing.
Over the consultations of 2021 and 2022 we worked closely with the team, meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders while working to budget and within tight timescales.

The brief
Our main responsibility was to work with the Communications team to make technical information accessible to the public. A project of this scale generates an abundance of information, so much of the job came down to simplifying complex maps and keeping the content clear.
What we designed
Across the two consultations, our deliverables included:
- Community engagement materials: public exhibition event boards, questionnaires, newsletters, a timeline of engagement and a set of clear, intuitive project maps
- Advertising: press adverts and social media visuals
- Formal documents, designed and typeset: the consultation summary document and the Statement of Community Involvement

Everything was designed with accessibility and clarity in mind: a clear visual hierarchy on every piece, so the story being told was easily digestible.

The 2025 update
In 2025 the work continued with a summary update for the project: 32 pages, posted to residents in the noise contour and designed so a resident can skim it in five minutes.
A different format, the same job: technical information made clear enough to be read quickly.
