EDF Sizewell C Stage 4 Consultation
Consultation materials for the Stage 4 statutory process at Sizewell C: a print pack and an accessible feedback portal that let residents respond in their own time.
EDF Energy’s nuclear new build communications team asked us to design the public-facing materials for the Sizewell C pre-application consultation. We had designed consultation materials for EDF Energy before, and that earlier work is why we were asked back.
The consultation put detailed technical information in front of a wide, non-technical audience. Our materials had to support the engagement work being done with the community and the project’s stakeholders, hold to EDF Energy’s strict brand guidelines, and arrive on timescales that were not negotiable.
The approach
Consultation documents fail when they read like the engineering behind them.
So the work was graphic design and typesetting in service of comprehension: typography and layout chosen to make dense material clear, and technical content arranged so someone meeting the project for the first time could understand it and respond. We worked closely with EDF Energy’s communications team throughout.
The pack and the portal
At the centre was the printed consultation pack: accessible, clearly structured documents that carried the project’s technical detail in plain form.

Alongside the print, an accessible feedback portal let residents respond in their own time.
The outcome
Engagement and feedback from the community increased.
The work was delivered within tight timescales that had no give in them, and it supported EDF Energy’s consultation effort with the community and stakeholders throughout the pre-application process.
