Report design and typesetting

Family hubs are centres built around integrated working: easier access and better outcomes for families, more effective service delivery, smarter use of budgets. The Family Hubs Network wants every community across the country to enjoy their benefits, and advocates for their spread by raising awareness and sharing good practice.

The Network came to us for design and typesetting support on a report.

The report's cover: a family photograph beneath the title Parents don't think the Government is on their side, and the subtitle We need a Budget for Families

The brief

The report was data-driven and the deadline was close. The Network needed an agency that could work accurately at speed, stay within its brand guidelines, and set the report out so the contents drew readers in.

Working to the deadline

A tight timeline is stressful for everyone with a stake in a report, not least its authors. We kept communication regular and open from the start, so the team always knew where the work stood and could trust that the deadline would be met.

Letting the numbers speak

We gave the numbers room.

A table measuring the family friendly nature of different countries earned a full page to itself. We recreated it in the Network’s branding and turned the colour palette into a sliding scale, so the findings can be taken in at a glance.

Typesetting the text

We worked closely with the team to typeset the report so the text flows and reads easily. Key quotes are pulled out for impact. Examples of particular significance sit apart from the run of the text, in boxes of the brand’s orange.

An open spread from the report: a chapter opener headed Many families are under acute financial pressure, with a pull quote and a worked example set in an orange box
