In 2021, Gatwick Airport published their proposals for the Northern Runway project and underwent a process of community engagement and consultation on those proposals. Our team was commissioned as part of the consultation team to provide graphic design, typesetting, and video editing services.

Over the course of the consultations in 2021 and 2022, we collaborated closely with the team, aligning with the needs of multiple stakeholders, working to budget and within tight timescales.

Our deliverables included:

• Designing materials for community engagement: public exhibition event boards, questionnaires, newsletters, a timeline of engagement as well as a set of clear, intuitive project maps
• Creating advertising materials: press adverts and social media visuals
• Designing and typesetting documents: the consultation summary document and Statement of Community Involvement

Everything was crafted with accessibility and clarity in mind, ensuring all the materials had a clear visual hierarchy so the story being told would be easily digestible.

Ultimately, our main responsibility was to collaborate with the Communications team in order to make the technical information more accessible to the public. This involved simplifying complex maps and ensuring that the content was clear, considering the abundance of information available.

In all our work, accessibility was prioritised. We closely worked with the Communications team to ensure that the technical information was presented in an easily understandable way. Our graphic design and typesetting work played a crucial role in this process, allowing us to present the information in a clear and visually appealing manner.
